Dolls House Roof Tile Application Guide
- Fast and easy to apply - Simply stick the tiles into position with PVA adhesive or double sided tape.
- Finish the ridge with normal tiles or add optional half round ridge tiles.
- Choice of finish - Paint with a colour of your choice and add as much shading and detail as you wish.
The 1:12 scale tiles are made from 1mm thick grey compressed fibre board and measure 20 x 25mm (1:24 scale: 0.5 x 10 x 13.5mm). Each pack contains 500 tiles approx. which are sufficient to cover an area of 2.2 - 2.5 square feet approx (1:24 scale: 0.55 - 0.625 square feet). The coverage varies according to tile spacing and overlap - additional tiles can be purchased if required.
Recommended Application and Finishing Method
Starting at the bottom edge of the roof glue the first row of
roof tiles into position. Working up towards the ridge glue
further rows into position ensuring that each row is overlapped
by about 5mm and the tiles are aligned / staggered correctly.
Tip: As the tiles are applied individually it is possible to add
character to the roof by varying the alignment of the tiles to
create an aged or distressed appearance.
Once all the tiles have been glued into position they can be painted using a suitable colour matt emulsion paint (small sample pots from DIY stores are ideal). When dry shading can be added if required using acrylic paints. Using this method it is quite easy to create tiles of varying shades and even add weathering effects which will greatly enhance the finished roof tile effect. Finally a coat of clear matt varnish can be added if required to protect and seal the finished roof tiles.
Further tools and materials recommended include: A suitable wood / cardboard adhesive (PVA) or double sided tape, a sharp craft knife or scissors, Paint / Matt Varnish. (Not supplied).
Slate samples finished with matt emulsion paint, acrylic paint shading and clear matt varnish. Terracotta and other tile colours can easily be created using appropriate paints.
